So, this is the story short…
” the 28-year-old resident of Krasnoyarsk has filed a lawsuit against the US company «Bethesda Game Studios». He is trying to win (approx. 7000 USD, sounds funny, I know) from the developers of the computer game “Fallout 4”, half a million rubles for the ruined family, dismissal and loss of health.
In November of the current year, the citizen of Krasnoyarsk has seen some of the new “Fallout 4” game trailers and decided to get the game. Just for a change. “I didn’t want to miss my wife while she’s on a business trip. I just didn’t notice I got trapped by the game… I simply got hooked. I’ve noticed I started to rush home from work, leave 20 minutes earlier… My wife was not yet back from the business trip, but I started to skip her evening calls, days later I switched off the phone and started to skip work, pretending I was ill. The world of the game just seemed more real to me, I felt different when playing.”
His friends and family couldn’t contact him and started to worry. By that moment his wife came back from the business trip, the husband turned to be a totally different person: “I felt like it was not the person I knew: irritated, nervous, dissatisfied. I thought that he didn’t get enough sleep because of the work! I tried to be supportive, giving him some time on his own, but the things gone bad… I started to notice that he’d spend all his free time playing computer games.
He was not going to work anymore. I tried to get him involved into any activity, but failed – he was completely plunged into the game. I couldn’t get through it, nothing was convincing, I said I want the divorce. He agreed just because I was distracting him from playing the game. It all happened in days! Not even weeks! There was totally no reaction and I had no choice!”
The employer had to dismiss the guy for he never got the medical proof of his illness. As the consequences of all these changes the gamer got blood pressure issues, gastrointestinal tract issues, and got depressed. “I had to turn to a psychologist, who appointed antidepressants.”
“If only I knew that this game could ruin my relationship, my life, I would have reacted to it somehow”- says the inhabitant of Krasnoyarsk. – “I would have never bought this game or, at least, would have postponed the purchase to the Christmass holidays… I even had to turn to the psychologist! I’ve never had problems with computer games before”.
It should be noted that Russia has not had judicial practice on disputes between ordinary consumers and foreign companies on the moral damage compensations. Nonetheless, the lawyers are going to defend the rights of the customer.
The Russian representative of the “Bethesda” has not yet officially commented on the issue.”
This article has spread over the Runet in just one day. The reliable websites were “rewriting it” without a doubt. By now I haven’t found the “first publisher” of the information, but I wonder if Bethesda has paid to all of the websites, that have published the article, or it simply got viral? Anyways, that’s a brilliant example of the “negative” promotion. I just loved it! I remember skipping school because of “The Sims” and “Quake 3 arena”… I loved “Serous Sam” and couldn’t live a day without “HalfLife”… I can easily believe such a story, even though I know it’s a viral commercial of Fallout 4! Great try, Bethesda, I would have bought it, if I had no life! The sad part – I won’t get money for advertising Fallout 4…
